Who is Bunzl?

There are plenty of companies out there working tirelessly to deliver required goods and services for the fresh produce industry. One of those companies is Bunzl Distribution, the exclusive marketing and distribution partner for all of TRUETRAC’s products.

Bunzl is headquartered in London, England and is publicly traded under BNZL.L on the London Stock Exchange. It’s an amazingly streamlined company that performs a duty that may seem mundane to some. What Bunzl does is distribute a number of not-for-sale products and packaging supplies that help companies operate.

But what most people don’t know is that Bunzl operates in two-dozen countries around the world. In North America, Bunzl Distribution operates a fleet of more than 500 trucks, delivering and picking up what you need — on time and regardless of where you are — from more than 70 warehouses.

But how exactly does Bunzl interact with our operations at TRUETRAC?

As Bunzl’s influence in the agricultural sector expanded — and with the growing need for “smart” packaging — TRUETRAC was a natural addition to Bunzl’s strategic offerings. TRUETRAC is a technology company committed to traceability and food safety automation with innovative labeling solutions and Web-based marketing tools that make packaging “smart.”

But it’s Bunzl that does the heavy lifting — from the beginning of the sales cycle to full deployment of TRUETRAC organization-wide. It is Bunzl that introduces TRUETRAC to customers, scopes the application environment and implements TRUETRAC directly in harvest operations or packing facilities.

Many of our projects involve a variety of hardware solutions and different departments within a company. Field and packhouse operations, cooler management, food safety, IT and executive management all play a role in a typical traceability project. Bunzl leads the traceability or food safety project with a systematic approach that is tailored for each customer.

To date, Bunzl has played an important and collaborative role in numerous PTI-oriented pilot projects with the TRUETRAC system for customers across a variety of commodities, including berries, grapes, leafy greens, melons, sweet corn and tree fruit among others. With its nationwide operation, Bunzl has completed pilots in Florida, Arizona and California, and will soon be doing the same in Central and South America.

As Bunzl Distribution’s president of specialty businesses and operations, Mark Brasher, often says, “We’re all in!”. Brasher is also quick to point out that the financial and manpower commitment to getting TRUETRAC’s solutions into the hands of agribusinesses that need it most is huge and spans across several divisions within Bunzl.

Sure, there are other traceability solutions on the market as well as label manufacturers and packaging companies. And all of them are competing for PTI-related contracts. But not a one of them comes close to having the purchasing power, the financial strength or the resources of Bunzl. When the current traceability initiative grows roots, we see retailer adoption and system integration becoming a bigger element of these projects.

And Bunzl will be there, providing outstanding customer service by working closely with its network of packaging companies, supplying the TRUETRAC system so it can continue to help you and your business create smart consumer packaging.

We’re proud to be affiliated with Bunzl because we know our clients will get the products they need and the service they demand at the most competitive prices.
