Meet The Team: TRUETRAC Product Manager Johnny McGuire

Johnny McGuire, Product Manager at TRUETRAC
For this TRUETRAC manager, the position as product chief sort of dropped in his lap, and he says he’s not looking back. Johnny McGuire is more than happy with the way his workday unfolds and he cites teamwork as a major bonus.
Here’s Johnny!
TRUETRAC: What is it exactly that you do here at TRUETRAC?
Johnny McGuire: I am responsible for the oversight and delivery of all aspects of product development here at TRUETRAC.
TRUETRAC: What did you do prior to coming to work for TRUETRAC?
JM: I began my career in agriculture at Capurro Farms, driving new-product development and business process improvement methods throughout the enterprise. Prior to Capurro, I worked in the Silicon Valley as a senior project manager for Metricom Inc., a pioneer in wireless data networking. More recently, I worked as director of project management for Growers Express, a Salinas Valley grower and shipper. While there, I focused on the development and delivery of software solutions to support business process automation. I’m also a co-inventor on two agribusiness data collection-related patents.
TRUETRAC: What attracted you to come to work at TRUETRAC?
JM: Thankfully, it was TRUETRAC that found me! You might say the planets lined up. It was the right fit at the right time for everyone concerned, and I’m very happy to be part of a great team working on technical projects with produce professionals.
TRUETRAC: Where did you go to college and what did you major in, and how did that prepare you for the job you have today?
JM: I studied business administration at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.
TRUETRAC: What do you like to do in the time when you’re not at work?
JM: As a solo parent with three young daughters, I tend to have to do as I’m told. Should I get a little time to myself though, I am an avid musician, golfer and squash player.
TRUETRAC: If you could take a one-year paid sabbatical from work to set up your own farm, what would you grow and why?
JM: Hmmm? Great question. I have so much respect for the hard work and dedication of the farmers I get to work with, I’m not sure I am worthy of the endeavor. Alright, I’ll play along. A year wouldn’t give me a whole lot of time to do much, so assuming the ground is prepared, I would look to plant short-cycle rotational crops to get a wide variety, replenish the dirt and maximize my yields. Remember I have a family to feed! How’s that for farmer talk?

Hey mate,
We will have to play a (friendly) game of racquetball sometime.
